EAST TEXAS CHAPTER - THE NEW WORKERS' COMPENSATION LAW AND ITS IMPACT ON NONSUBSCRIBER PROGRAMS
Meeting Date: 10/14/2005
The new law, which will become effective on September 1st, includes provisions to establish medical networks for subscribing employers, transfer the functions of the Texas Workers' Compensation to a new Department of Workers' Compensation at the Texas Department of Insurance, establish the Office of Employee Worker Assistance to assist injured employees, increase the benefits available to injured employees and more.
In addition to new considerations for subscribing employers, the 2005 workers’ compensation reform also includes provisions relating to Texas nonsubscribers. The law changes the way nonsubscribing employers interface with injured employees following an injury, affects reporting procedures, installs new nonsubscriber regulations and establishes new research guidelines to study Texas nonsubscribers and Texas nonsubscriber programs.
This presentation will offer valuable insight for both subscribing and nonsubscribing as well as industry professionals that support occupational injury programs in Texas.
