FORT WORTH CHAPTER - UTILIZING STRUCTURED SETTLEMENTS: A DISCUSSION FOR TEXAS NONSUBSCRIBERS
Meeting Date: 05/18/2006
Structured settlements are used by businesses, including nonsubscribing businesses, to address catastrophic claims by providing benefits over a period of time to an injured employee, the employee’s dependents, estate, etc.
Structured settlements are considered when an employee’s injury benefit needs extend to a number of years or even a lifetime. They may also be utilized in the unfortunate event of a death to provide benefits to the employee’s estate or minor dependents. Structured settlements can offer cost savings and favorable tax considerations while also offering ways for nonsubscribers to settle claims in exchange for assurances that the future medical and other economic needs of an injured employee will be met. In addition to providing a benefit for employees, structured settlements can also serve to reduce costs typically be associated with a lump sum benefit payment.
Mr. Joe Bornstein, one of the nation’s leading experts on structured settlements, will provide a presentation on structured settlements and their specific application to responsible nonsubscriber programs. Mr. Bornstein is Vice President of the Mangelsdorf Companies.
